Arnab Chakraborty, PhD, AICP, became dean of the University of Utah’s College of Architecture and Planning in 2023, bringing a strong vision for academic excellence, innovation, and community impact. As dean, he has strengthened the college’s research profile, introduced new scholarships and career initiatives, and expanded academic programs, including adding the top-ranked Division of Games and launching programs in Architectural Studies and Design Studies. He also champions innovation, climate-responsive practices, and student success. Previously a professor and associate dean at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he is an internationally recognized scholar of urban planning and policy. His work has shaped planning practice nationwide and earned over $2 million in competitive funding. He holds important roles with Journal of the American Planning Association, the Consortium for Scenario Planning, and the Planning Accreditation Board and received the University of Maryland’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2024.
