Short Biography
Ted Knowlton is the chief planner and deputy director at the Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC), the metropolitan planning organization for the greater Salt Lake City, Utah, area. He has dedicated his career to forging strongly supported, coordinated plans among communities, the private sector, and government agencies, aiming to enhance shared quality of life and sustainability. His experience includes award-winning planning efforts in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City. In Salt Lake City, he further led the original development of the Wasatch Choice for 2040 vision, the area’s officially adopted four-county plan. He is an adjunct professor in the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Utah and a past president of the American Planning Association’s Utah chapter. He holds a master’s in urban and regional planning from Portland State University.
