Short Biography
Dan Cronan works in research, practice, and education globally, with a current focus on food and the built environment that includes food, energy, and water systems (FEWS) analyses; landscape scenario planning using GIS and Geodesign; digital twin development; and designing agricultural and urban best management practices. He has contributed to National Science Foundation (NSF)–funded projects like Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy and Water Systems and GEM3, aligning stakeholder perspectives with research-driven trajectories, and he has collaborated with organizations such as AmeriCorps and the National Park Service. His instruction and research utilize geospatial narratives and tools like web-based applications, digital twins, and scenario and climate atlases for alternative futures analysis. This scenario-based land use modeling aims to guide community planning and future development within socioecological systems, particularly in urban and rural food systems, with a continued focus on applying these concepts to northwest communities at Washington State University’s School of Design and Construction.
